4/06/03 - Austin, TX - La ZONA ROZA

A review by Melissa - BBallHoTChick24@aol.com
Wow! Where to begin?!
I am going to try to write down the events from last night at the concert so I will always remember them, because it was truly a night I will always remember.
The night began around 5:30 pm when my dad and I drove to Sarah's house to pick her up for the concert. First, we stopped at Walgreen's to pick up a disposable camera. A little before 6:00 we were picked Sarah up and were on our way to La Zona Rosa in Austin! On Friday night (April 4th) Sarah and I went to Hobby Lobby and bought all of the supplies we would need to make T-Shirts for the concert! We made red shirts and cut off the sleeves, neck, and down the sides of the shirt and laced them back up with black shoe laces. Then we added puff paints and a few rhinestones to the shirts! On the front of my shirt I wrote "Kelly Osbourne" and had a few song titles like "Shut Up!, Diconnected, Contradiction, and Coolhead". We were also wearing matching bandanas: red, white, grey, and black army typed pattern..very cute!
We arrived at the concert location I would say around 6:30. My dad took a couple of "pre-concert" pictures of the two of us, dropped us off, and went to his work. Sarah and I first just walked to the entrance and stood their talking. The gates were to open around 7:00pm to let us in and the actual show started at 8:00. As we are waiting there, we noticed our radio station (96.7) writing down the names of people gathered (but not ours). Then another lady walked around handing out flyers to people waiting and telling them how they could buy Kelly's CD and a wrist band on the way in for $20, which would guarantee meeting Kelly after the concert. Of course this lady passed us up, both Sarah and I were angry and thinking "what are we not good enough to get a flyer". A few minutes later a lady from the radio station 96.7 comes up to me and asks me: "Are you a Kelly Osbourne fan", I answer "yes". "Did you try to win tickets from Kiss FM". A little unclear of where this conversation was leading I mumble "yes" and say "we bought our tickets though". Then she answers by saying "well how would you like to go to Kelly's Meet n Greet!" We were so thrilled and excited! So she immediately leads us into a small bar area room with tables and we sit down to wait for Kelly to arrive. While waiting, Bobby Bones, a DJ from 96.7, comes over to us and introduces himself and says that they were looking for a few more people to come to the meet and greet and he was the one who suggested "the two gurls dressed up out there"! He was referring to our shirts! Whoo hoo! And then he said "So now you have to listen to me on the radio every night"! It was really cool! Then Kelly Osbourne just walks in like wow just like that! she was so cute, shorter then I expected, blonde hair and wearing jeans and a black T-Shirt! She immediately sat at one of the tables and we all formed one line to meet her! They had given everyone posters with Kelly's album cover and another picture on the back side (for her to sign). I was actually going to meet KELLY OSBOURNE! One of the ladies in front of us had a broken arm and so that started a small discussion with Kelly. The gurl broke her arm in a car accident and Kelly said she had a friend that that happened to also. They also asked why she used tour busses and did not fly places...she said she was afraid to fly! Then it was our turn. I handed my disposable camera to the man to take our pic with Kelly. First she signs Sarah's poster, then mine. She had to ask how to spell my name..MELISSA. She was so sweet! My heart was pounding and I was tongue tied! I wanted to tell her great news on her mother being cancer free and also ask her a few questions about when Justin Timberlake and Ashton Kutcher PUNK'D her on an MTV show, but I couldn't...I regret that now! It was a once in a life time chance. During the autographs she said she liked our shirts!! Remember this now because it keeps popping up throughout the night, those dang shirts!...we say thank you and then get our picture taken with her. I put my arm around her! I hope it turns out too, because it was really dark in the room and that is the ONLY picture I got of her or with her. After our turn I stood back, but directly in front of her watching everyone get their autographs and pictures taken. I noticed she is left handed! (I'm left handed too.. cool thing!) Every time she would stand up to take a picture with people I would be looking right at her and smiling away. She noticed too! Lol and would smile back! Once everyone was done they escorted us out and we handed them our tickets and went right into the stage!
We got our spots smack dab in the middle and RIGHT AGAINST THE RAIL! Maybe like 2 feet or so from the stage! It was awesome! So there we stood from 7:00 until a little after 8:00 when the opening act came out. Ohhh yea!. After we had been standing there for about 3 minutes maybe, I saw Kelly Osbourne walking from the meet n greet room to behind the stage and I go "Oooh there's Kelly Osbourne" and she heard me and started to laugh. Yep Yep!
A little after 8:00 and the opening act comes on. His name was Har Mar SuperStar or something crazy like that and let me tell you not an attractive man. He was pretty chunky (had a belly), had a long raggedy tail of hair and was wearing a pink robe! Every song he sang he would take off another piece of clothing until during his last song he was in nothing but skimpy underwear! It was not a pretty site. Everyone was laughing at him, throwing things on the stage (ice, soda cans, tampons!) and yelling for him to get off. Lol it was entertaining. He left stage around 9:00. Then the crew came on and began to set-up and clean the stage for Kelly! (Test microphones, adjust the fan to blow right on Kelly's face, test guitars, etc)
So the concert begins. The best is still to come! The music begins to play and the 2 guitarists and drummer gurl begin to play and then Kelly walks out!!!! OMG you will never guess what she does then? She waves DIRECTLY at me a cute little wave and smiling saying "oh hey I remember you!" It was an awesome moment! She actually remembered us and was acknowledging that! Wow!
Some hilarious moments I remember from the concert- After one song when trying to place the microphone back on the stand, she drops it! Oops! And makes a goofy little laugh! The order of the songs that she was to sing was posted on the floor to the side of us, and she kept looking down to see what song to sing next! Cute! After her very first song she turned around to get a drink of water and then she dumped it all over her! When she returned to the microphone she looked down at her shirt at made a cute smile! Aww she was adorable! After one song she took a short break and told the audience a funny story although it was hard to hear what she was saying! Then she asked if anyone had a story to share and picked a gurl from the audience who didn't really have a story, she just wanted to get on stage, hug Kelly, and say how awesome the concert is, which is understandable! After another song Kelly was standing by the microphone on the stand and someone from the audience threw a black T-Shirt at her and she went "Oh Mother Fucker" because it scared the crap out of her! Then she opens the shirt and looks at it and goes "Aww thank you" in this CUTE voice! Everyone laughed, it was a great moment. Another time someone from the audience handed her a sheet of paper that had the name of their band on it. Another song she told all of the ladies for hold their hands in a closed peace sign and the men to hold it in a fist again, a little difficult to understand but it was still cute anyways! Hmmm....she sang her new song about her X-Boyfriend Burt and then spit on the stage! Once the concert started a drunk lady with beer in hand pushed her way to the front and was directly behind Sarah and I the whole time trying to push her way in and trying to touch Kelly and she was going crazy. When Kelly came close enough to reach out and touch, this drunk lady would wrap her hands around your back! She even had a lighter and would hold it in the air, I was afraid my hair would catch on fire! But the sweetest thing happened, Kelly kept eyeing the lady and then I would notice her looking at me and rolling her eyes as if to say "that's one crazy drunk lady" and then after a song she went to a stage crew and whispered something and then immediately a security guard came over and told the lady "you better calm down or we will kick you out" it was great! Kelly was looking out for us! This lady was spilling beer all over our heads and backs and pushing us against the rail my knees are terribly bruised but I didn't care the concert was awesome! Kelly also whispered to one of her guitarists Matt during the concert I believe it was again about the drunk lady just judging from their body language! I touched Kelly's hand at least 4 times during the concert, she seemed to love the group I was standing in she let people from our general area touch her hands the most. This may sound really corny or whatever, but every time I touched her hand I would like hold onto it for a while. It was just really cool. I was one of the only ones around where I was standing that knew every word to all of her songs too and I think she noticed....it was great! I promise the best is still to come! So then the time comes and she announces "this is my last song tonight and I need some people to come up here and help me sing" and OMG OMG she immediately points at my friend and I (the way she pointed was a sideways peace sign ahh lol right at us!!!) and goes "you two". She also called 2 small children, the gurl next to me, a crazy guy, and 2 moms up on stage also.(My friend and I were the ones in the red Kelly Osbourne shirts that we made!) I was lifted up over the rail by some cute security people! First Sarah got pulled upstage and then me, the whole moment is like a blur! It happened sooo fast and looking down at the crowd and where we had just been standing and everyone had already shoved into our spots! I WAS ON STAGE DANCING AND SINGING WITH KELLY OSBOURNE! It was a surreal moment...omg....I was just dancing away and singing like crazy. I would try to copy some of Kelly's moves! Kelly came around all of us and danced also. Before the song started my friend and I were standing by one of the guitarists Matt and he said "hi what's your name" I said "Melissa" and he said "hi, I'm Matt nice to meet you"! Ahh it was great! After the song I gave Kelly big hug and said "awesome concert" and she accidentally hit me in the arm with the microphone later and said "I'm sorry"! The concert ended around 10:00 pm. It was the best freaking concert and experience ever!!!!! I got to meet Kelly Osbourne, get her autograph, picture taken with her, and go on stage with her!!! It was definitely one of the best nights of my life and I will never forget it! I luv Kelly Osbourne! She is truly an amazing performer, singer, and person! I truly felt like I connected with Kelly at this concert (lol and one of Kelly's songs is called DISCONNECTED ne ways) and when you feel this connected with an artist you know that it must be one rocking concert! I read an article about the concert today and it said that Kelly was like the "fantasy best friend" everyone feels they have. And that is totally true I feel like I should be able to call her up and go hang! But until next time, that is my concert review!
