05/15/03: KELLY WON'T SHUT UP

SANTA MONICA, California — Kelly Osbourne recently split with her record label, but that doesn't mean she's going to Shut Up.

The "Osbournes" star said Tuesday she has a few songs already written for a second album. "If you listen to the lyrics, it's so much more mature," Kelly said at a party hosted by Sony's PlayStation 2 division.

"When I did [my debut] I was 16, and how much you change from when you're 16 to 17 is a lot. From 16 to 19 is a huge difference," said the singer, who turns 19 in October.

Osbourne said she hopes her departure from Epic Records will only advance her music career (see "Ozzy And Kelly Osbourne Parting Ways With Record Label"). "I'm actually really happy about it. [Former Sony Music chief] Tommy Mottola signed me, and then when he left I kind of got put on the shelf, you know. [Leaving] was just a mutual agreement, where I can go somewhere where they'll look after me. [Epic] is still our friends. I've known one of the people there my whole entire life."

In addition to continuing her music career, Kelly is finalizing her first foray into film. She's been reading several scripts and is in talks with the producers of one of them, though she won't reveal details until a deal is finalized.

"I've been offered some really stupid roles, like the ugly stepsister and stuff, but I don't wanna do anything like that," she said. "I'd rather do an independent movie than, like, a major movie, just because I don't even know if I can act yet."

Before Kelly makes it to the big screen, fans can see her in the third and most likely final season of "The Osbournes," which kicks off June 10.

05/14/03: PLAYSTATION PARTY

On May 13, Sony Computer Entertainment America celebrated this year's Electronic Entertainment Expo conference with Tobey Maguire, Eve, KELLY OSBOURNE, and numerous others at the ultimate beach club playground -- the "Playa del PlayStation."
PlayStation, the undisputed leader in the gaming industry, transformed Santa Monica's Viceroy Hotel into an all-inclusive destination complete with seaside cabanas, beachside beauties tons of sand and a special musical performance by 50 Cent.

05/09/03: KELLY DROPPED BY EPIC PT.2

Ozzy and Kelly Osbourne are in the midst of leaving Sony Music, with whom the hard rock family has been associated since 1980. "We've had 23 great years together," family matriarch/manager Sharon Osbourne said in a statement. "We've shared many great successes, but sometimes you have to search out fresh blood to get fresh ideas, which is a philosophy that every record company, especially Sony, understands."

However, one member of the Osbournes is remaining in the Sony camp, as Ozzy's son Jack will stay on as a talent scout for Epic. Although further details were not immediately available, the statement says Sharon and Sony mutually agreed that Kelly would leave Sony after CEO Tommy Mottola resigned in January. Kelly's 2002 Epic debut, "Shut Up," debuted at No. 1 on Billboard's Heatseekers chart and has sold 147,000 copies in the U.S., according to Nielsen SoundScan.

Ozzy Osbourne has spent his entire post-Black Sabbath solo career on Epic, which last year reissued a host of his albums. His final studio set for the label, 2001's "Down to Earth," has sold 879,000 copies in the U.S., according to Nielsen SoundScan. Since SoundScan began tabulating sales in 1991, Osbourne has sold 13.5 million albums.

The 2003 edition of the Ozzy-headlined Ozzfest tour kicks off June 28 in San Antonio. Kelly Osbourne is scheduled to open select European dates for Robbie Williams this summer.

05/07/03: WHO LIKES POLITICIANS ANYWAY?

"Does Hollywood still think Ozzy Osbourne is funny now that he's shipped his underage son off to drug rehab?" Bob Dole asked in his weekly point/counterpoint segment with former President Bill Clinton. Clinton denied ever having seen "The Osbournes," but said that Republican budget cuts to after-school programs were doing more to "hurt our effort to keep kids drug-free" than any reality show.

Never ones to take a biting comment laying down, the Osbournes responded on Tuesday (May 6). "It's ridiculous that they should frame [Jack] as a national issue," Kelly Osbourne said in a statement to MTV News. "You don't go to rehab just because you're someone's kid, and it was Jack who had the balls to check himself in."
She reserved most of her ire for Senator Dole, adding, "P.S. You're a twat."

05/01/03: KELLY SINGS AT COACHELLA

The fourth edition of the Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival began early Saturday afternoon, April 26, amid sunny skies in Indio, Calif.,
The most difficult task for the 35,000 concertgoers was deciding where to start with five stages and more than 30 acts destined to play over 12 hours...
But, amist it all, Kelly Osbourne and "Will.I.Am" guested on a version of N*E*R*D's hit "Rock Star."....Right on....Anyone see it?

05/01/03: JACK REVEALS REASON FOR REHAB

According to People magazine, Osbourne checked into the Las Encinas Hospital in Pasadena, Calif., on April 23.
"I got caught up in my new lifestyle and got carried away with drugs and alcohol," Osbourne told People. "Once I realized this, I voluntarily checked myself into a detox facility for my own health and well-being."

According to The Associated Press, Kelly Osbourne told Us Weekly that her brother sought Sharon Osbourne's help to recover from alcohol and marijuana abuse.

"He sat with Mum and she said, 'We'll get you help, we'll figure it out,"' Kelly Osbourne told Us. "He's doing very well and we're all very proud of him. He's in really good spirits.
